Media regulator claims LinkedIn failed to retain information about citizens within Russia
The Russian government has banned the business networking site LinkedIn after it violated a controversial data law that required the site move its servers to Russia.
Findings made by Russian media and telecoms provider, Roskomnadzor, showed that information about Russian citizens were not kept within Russia according to a report by Telegraph.

The website will be blocked immediately after Roskomnadzor receives the full transcript of the court’s ruling, which according to reports, will be sometime next week.
Telegraph reports that the networking site asked for a meeting with the agency and is afraid that the decision will hurt its users. In their statement, the company said, “The Russian court’s decision has the potential to deny access to LinkedIn for the millions of members we have in Russia and the companies that use LinkedIn to grow their businesses. We remain interested in a meeting with Roskomnadzor to discuss their data localization request.”
LinkedIn is the first company that has been found in violation of Russia’s data law.
