Beijing’s Intermediate People’s Court has implemented a robot legal advisor to help people understand legal issues, according to China Daily.
The robot, named Xiaofa, talks, moves its head, waves its hands, and shows instructions on a screen. Du Xiangyang, CEO of the company behind it, said that it “explains complicated legal terms in everyday language”. “We used a child’s voice to ease the tense emotions of litigants who come here for help”, he added.

The robot is able to answer over 40,000 litigation questions and explain 30,000 legal issues.
The implementation of this new artificial intelligence is part of a “smart” court system, which officials say will “decrease the cost of litigation, save trial resources and improve the efficiency of justice”.
