Reversal of US Divorce Ruling Concerning Child’s Education

A decision by the Alabama Supreme Court from earlier this month could have an impact on how students of divorced parents finance their college educations reports The Opelika-Auburn News.

The state’s high court ruled on 4 October that non-custodial parents should no longer be legally required to help pay for their child’s college expenses. Any arrangements should be made voluntarily between the parents.

In our experience as Thailand lawyers, child support in Thailand divorces is frequently disputed by a divorcing couple.  Educational expenses are normally significantly higher for children for who attend international schools as many of our clients children do. Often provisions are made for educational expenses to a certain age or based on the child’s academic achievements.
