Motion for Dismissal of Reuters Reporters Case in Myanmar

Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo are the two reporters who were arrested in December last year for allegedly having “confidential government documents”. Lawyers for the Reuters Company that they work for urged the Myanmar court to dismiss the case as there was not enough evidence to support the accusations.

The court has been holding hearings since the beginning of this year for charges of breaching the “Officials Secrets Act” that may punish whoever is found guilty 14 years in jail. The next hearing after the Reuters Attorneys motion to dismiss the case will be held on the 4th of April.

The attorney on their case stated in court that witnesses have been cross examined and there is “no proof”. Diplomats from Australia and the EU attended the court hearing.

Parents involved in child custody disputes in Thailand often accuse the opposite parent of sexual abuse. Saving clear evidence of crimes is therefore very important.
