US Gun Law May Ban ‘Bump Stocks’ After Vegas Shooting

by Admin on October 6, 2017

Republicans, who are known for being staunchly against gun control, have shown openness to banning ‘bump stocks’, which were used in the recent Vegas shooting, according to KDVR.

A bump stock is a piece of metal or plastic molded to the end of a rifle which allows it to function as an automatic weapon, firing dozens of rounds in just seconds. Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock used such a tool to kill more than 50 people last week.

Senator John Cornyn said he would like a hearing to discuss the topic, calling it an “obvious concern”. He raised the issue to Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate judiciary committee. Senator Ron Johnson had a stronger opinion on the issue, saying he had ‘no problem’ with the idea of banning bump stocks altogether. “Automatic weapons are illegal,” the Wisconsin Republican told reporters. “To me, that is part of that same type of process”, he said.

Sen. Grassley has stated that he wants a full investigation into the Vegas massacre, in which almost 500 people were injured, before he would grant a hearing.
