Rabbi Jailed For Extortion in Divorce Case

An Orthodox Rabbi has been charged with plotting to force a man to grant a religious divorce to his wife under threat of violence.

As NJ.com reports, the man will spend up to 38 months in jail for conspiracy to commit extortion.

Martin Wolmark, 56, was approached by a woman and her brother about obtaining a divorce from her husband.

He said it could be done and would cost them $30,000.

Wolmark then arranged for masked co-conspirators to meet at a warehouse where they intended to force the husband to grant a “get,” or religious divorce.

Unbeknownst to Wolmark, the woman and brother were undercover FBI agents.
