Pope Francis has called for a more open church, and one that does not close its doors to those who are divorced and remarried, reports the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Catholics who are divorced and remarried are currently excluded from receiving communion – the Christian ceremony where worshipers symbolically drink the blood of Christ in the form of wine.

Speaking from the Vatican this Wednesday, the head of the Catholic Church said:

“The baptized who have established a new union after the failure of sacramental marriage are not at all excommunicated: they are not excommunicated. And they absolutely should not be treated as such.”

Divorce lawyers in Thailand have extensive experience over many decades in successfully handling divorce cases, both internationally and within Thailand.

The Catholic Catechism states regarding divorce and remarrying: “contracting a new union, even if it is recognized by civil law, adds to the gravity of the rupture: the remarried spouse is then in a situation of public and permanent adultery.”

This is the first time a Vatican official has been so lenient in this matter.

The Pope encouraged the Catholic Church to be welcoming to children of divorced parents.

“We must not add more weight to what children in these situations already have to bear.”
