Poll: Majority of Thai Men Support Full Marijuana Legalization, Less than Half of Women

According to a recent poll ahead of the March 24th elections, a majority of Thai men have said that they support full legalization of recreational marijuana, while under a half of women said the same.

More specifically, 58.5 percent of Thai working-age males said they support Bhumjai Thai Party’s legal weed push.

On the other hand, 43.5 percent of Thai females said they support the prominent pro-cannabis party’s stance.

The surprising survey findings come just weeks after Thailand fully legalized cannabis for medical use.

The poll also found that 9 out of 10 Thais oppose foreign ownership of cannabis patents in Thailand.

Bhumjai Thai has proposed allowing each Thai household to grow up to six weed plants, which could then be sold to state agencies or universities for research and medicinal use.

As it stands now though, owning or possessing marijuana for recreational purposes or for medicinal use without a prescription is still a punishable offense that could lead to jail time, according to Thailand drug attorneys.
