Holder Protest at White House Stopped by Secret Service

Protestors calling for the firing of Attorney General Eric Holder  hardly had a chance to protest before Secret Service agents spied an unattended bag and shut the demonstration down.

The incident was a false alarm and some of the 50 or so activists thought it seemed to be too much of a coincidence.

The backpack was determined to belong to a tourist who had left the bag to take a photo.

“(Agents) were antsy the whole time we were there. They kept asking a lot of us if we were planning any civil disobedience,” said protest organizer and activist Oliver Darcy.

Holder has been criticized after being found in contempt of Congress for not turning over documents relating to the gun-walking sting that allowed thousands of guns to potentially be obtained by Mexican drug gangs.

Concern Over Speeding Can Only Lead to Jail

Drivers passing Natalie Plummer may have mistook the sign wielding woman as another homeless person looking to hitch a ride. But looking a little closer they would have seen the words ‘speed trap’ on this pedestrian’s sign.

While Natalie was riding her bike on a Texas road she noticed police officers pulling cars over. To her it looked as if they were targeting the cars at random. So being a good citizen she quickly made the makeshift warning. Unfortunately for her those same police arrested her for ‘walking in the road where a sidewalk is present.’

Natalie’s retort?

“I for sure did not step into the street,” she said. Well, it’s for sure one side has got their story wrong.

State Fines Mean Jail Time and More Money for Companies

Actually, Natalie should have been holding her sign when Gina Ray was driving and pulled over for speeding. When she failed to show up to court her license was revoked.

However, Gina continued to drive (and speed) and was once again pulled over. This time she was fined more than $1,500 then jailed as she was not able to pay. Her fines have more than doubled and it is also reflection on ‘money-starved towns” charging large fines for minor infractions .

With misdemeanors the right to counsel is hardly brought up and the probation companies promise revenue to the towns while also saying they help offenders.  Yet it’s not just speeding tickets that are making it hard for residents to pay up. Fines over child support payments and public drunkenness have been getting people in more legal and financial trouble than in the past keeping many in a continuous cycle of debt and jail time while the companies spitting out the fines are profiting.
