According to The Phuket News, the Department of Special Investigations suspects that there was foul play involved in the death of a man in connection with a plot of land worth B1.4bn.
The case came to light when Rormah Wonlgee, 80, alleged that a second Thai land title deed had been issued under the same registration number that was issued for the land her family owns. The document is registered to a man known only as ‘P’.
It’s believed that a copy of the original document had been made and then doctored to obtain the rights to another plot of land, which is reported to be worth around B1.4bn.
Col Prawut said that officers inspected the plot, and used the DSI protected government land map to determine that it was in a protected forest area.
In February this year, Ms Rormah’s brother was asked to make a copy of the document. Not long after that, he was involved in a fatal car accident. Police now believe that the crash could have been something more sinister.
“I suspect that this was not an accident but was something else, because I also learned that Ms Rormah’s brother had signed a contract to sell the land for B14 million”, col Prawut said.
