Over $540 million paid to a PR firm based in the UK

The bureau of investigative journalism reports that the Pentagon paid as much as $540 million dollars to a public relations firm based in the UK to make fake terrorist videos in Iraq as part of a top secret propaganda program.

The bureau worked along with the Sunday Times to expose the alleged campaign.

According to the report, PR firm Bell Pottinger, were made to make small insurgent videos set to imitate Arabic style news and fake terrorist videos which were then used to track the people that watched them.

The former chairman of Bell Pottinger, Tim Bell, confirmed to the Sunday Times that the firm had worked with various top secret agencies on covert military operations.

The Bureau was able to unveil the full extent of the program by tracking U.S. Army contracts, records of federal procurement transactions, reports for the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General, corporate records from Bell Pottinger, and more.

In total, the Bureau “identified transactions worth $540 million between the Pentagon and Bell Pottinger for information operations and psychological operations on a series of contracts issued from May 2007 to December 2011.”
