Runaway bride Jariyaporn “Nammon” Buayai, 32, has duped no less than 12 men into marrying her before disappearing with the dowry or ‘sin sod’ from their families, according to Bangkok Post (http://www.bangkokpost.com).
Her latest victim, Prasarn Tiamyam, recently filed a formal complaint against her after she told him she was pregnant and married him before running away with the 200,000 THB dowry just days later. Seven more men have come forward to file similar complaints and others have emerged on social media, launching a campaign to warn others of her scam. Meanwhile, Ms. Jariyaporn is currently on the run.
Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division is now looking to interview her parents. They believe they may have been complicit in her crimes, as they attended each of her weddings. They also want to question a woman named Soypet Paleewan, who had the dowry money wired to her bank account.

Ms. Jariyaporn’s fraud is not just limited to dowry theft. In 2012, she reportedly took more than 100,000 THB from fellow residents of her tambon, Ban Nahaew in Loei. She promised them that she could get them jobs at the Municipal office she worked at, but when it became clear that it was a scam, they filed complaints of fraud against her. She’s wanted in five provinces for her crimes, but police are yet to find her.
Under Section 341 of Thailand’s Criminal Code, fraud is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years and/or fine of up to 6,000 THB.
