According to Breitbart, an American company called Babel Street monitors social media and the dark web, gathers information about the people who visit these sites, and sells it to law enforcement and government agencies for up to $20,000 a year.
The site reports that the Pentagon, the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies use the service to research dangerous individuals, including cybercriminals.

News of the service has prompted security and privacy concerns from various organizations, one of which is the ACLU. Matt Cagle, an ACLU lawyer, said that Babel Street “can provide a very detailed picture of a person’s private life”.
