Authorities in Norway are offering 10,000 kroner (1000 GBP/$1460) to asylum seekers willing to voluntarily leave the country.
As The Telegraph reports, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) says offering this money is less expensive than housing refugees in immigration centers.
The measure, which was launched on Monday, will run for 6 weeks and be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to the first 500 applicants.
NGO lawyers in Thailand Chaninat and Leeds have been helping NGO’s and foundations establish themselves in Thailand for decades.
Sylvi Listhaug, integration minister said:
“We need to entice more [people] to voluntarily travel back by giving them a bit more money on their way out. This will save us a lot of money because it is expensive to have people in the asylum centres.”
This 10,000 kroner would be in addition to the 20,000 kroner already offered to asylum seekers and migrants who wish to return to their home countries.
