New Tax on Alcohol and Cigarettes, Police Set Sights on Hoarders

by Admin on September 14, 2017

A new tax excise on alcohol and cigarettes in Thailand will come into effect on Saturday, Bangkok Post reports.

The tax will increase the price of liquor by 30 baht per bottle and beer by 2.66 baht per bottle. The price of cigarettes is likely to go up anywhere from 2 to 15 baht per pack, according to Reuters.

Police are now cracking down on people hoarding alcohol and cigarettes before the tax is enforced, with penalties of up to seven years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 140,000 baht for those caught.

Prenuptial agreements for Thailand marriages are drafted by expert Thailand and Western lawyers.

Deputy Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong also said that action would be taken against vendors who refuse to sell the products.
