A new Houston, Texas law is requiring gold, silver and other precious metal retailers to be fingerprinted and photographed. The law was passed in an effort to track criminals who resell stolen metals, according to KTRK-TV.
“It’s going to allow us the tools necessary to combat a lot of the high-end jewelry thefts that’s going on in the city, whether it’s robberies or burglaries,” said Houston Police Officer Rick Barajas.
Not only will gold-buying shops be required to photograph and fingerprint their sellers, but the items they buy must be photographed as well. With the fiscal cliff looming and Americans rushing to invest in precious metals and other physical assets, the law might hurt businesses.
The city has already passed legislation with similar requirements for scrap metal sellers and dealers.
Labor Law Thailand
Thailand’s employment laws, governed by the Department of Labor, Protection and Welfare, regulate employment and working conditions.
In Thailand, you can’t go far without seeing a gold retailer or pawn shop. Tourists come here hoping to get the precious metal at a considerably lower price. There are, however, practical and legal considerations to keep in mind when buying gold in Thailand.
