Naming Pedophiles on Facebook Page “Breaks No Laws”

by Admin on September 14, 2012

A Facebook page identifying sex offenders with names and addresses is being monitored by the PSNI but has not broken any laws. The page, which identifies pedophiles in Limavady Borough Council area, was started by a father who believes similar pages will soon be made.

He has been given guidance by the police who have told him what he can and cannot post but has not received any notion of them shutting the page down.

He said that since police can’t monitor released sex offenders 24 hours a day people have a right to know through Facebook.

PSNI Limavady Area Commander, Sam Donaldson said that much of the site content is already in the public domain as a result of news reporting.

A Public Protection Arrangements spokeswoman, the body responsible for the resettlement of all prisoners said that if anyone has concerns about public safety the matter should be brought to the police.
