Monks and Military Held in Sex Ring Crackdown In ChiangMai

by Admin on November 6, 2015

Police in Chiang Mai suspect 23 to be being behind a sex ring that lured young girls to work as prostitutes, reports Asian Correspondent.

The girls, some as young as 13, were allegedly sold to military officers, Buddhist monks and a number of other high-ranking officials.

Among those arrested include a former Buddhist abbot and a senior former military officer.

As any lawyer in Thailand can tell you, sex with a minor under 15 years of age is considered rape.

The issue of Buddhism is sensitive in Thailand, and we commend the Thai authorities for taking action against any and all persons abusing the trust of the public and authority of their positions.
