Molson Coors, the massive brewing company behind Coors Light and Molson Canadian, has partnered with a large pot producer to deliver non-alcoholic cannabis drinks to the Canadian market.
The move comes ahead of legal marijuana hitting the mass market after Canada recently became only the second country ever to ratify nationwide recreational marijuana.
Molson Coors will have a 57.5% stake in the joint cannabis beverage venture, while medical marijuana grower The Hydropothecary Corporation will hold the rest.
Last year, rival beer company Constellation Brands–maker of Corona–bought a stake in a different Canadian pot producer.
Alcohol companies are looking to get into the legal marijuana game as soon as possible to hedge their losses from increased cannabis use.
According to a study done by Georgia State University, alcohol sales fell 20% in states that legalized weed.
