A second case has come forward alleging that Los Angeles Police Department officials wrongly fired on a pickup truck thought to be fugitive Christopher Dorner.
David Perdue said his pickup, which police believed to be “similar” to Dorner’s but actually differs in make and color, was shot at by LAPD after they slammed into his vehicle.
Police were on the fourth day of a manhunt for Dorner, an ex-LAPD cop who disappeared after killing three and injuring two he believed were behind his firing at the department.
Law officials in Torrance, California said the police were responding to shots fired at a nearby area where evidence was being collected that related to Dorner.

The first injuries suffered from LAPD’s mistaking identity occurred in a similar situation where police had mistaken a pickup truck for Dorner’s vehicle. A mother and daughter were delivering newspapers; one was shot twice in the back and the other was injured from fragmented glass. Both have been released from the hospital.
In Perdue’s case, the bullets missed him and he wasn’t seriously injured in the incident. His attorney claims he suffered a concussion and a shoulder injury that kept him from work, and his truck was totaled.
Police released a statement justifying their actions following the incident:
“In the split seconds available to them, action was appropriate to intervene and stop the actions of the driver of that vehicle.”
The shooting is still under investigation.
