Minn. Man Jailed for Vitamin Powder Mistaken for Meth

A Minnesota man spent three months in jail after being arrested for what police thought was possession of meth, but was in reality vitamin supplements, reports the Mankato Free Press.

Joseph Ray Burrell, 31, was arrested on Nov. 14, 2014. Despite Burrell’s claims that the tablets were for his shoulder pain, he was detained and his bail was set at $25,000.

Burrell was initially reportedly pulled over for a minor traffic violation, but he had a warrant for his arrest, leading to the car search.

According to Mankato Free Press, Burrell said prosecutors waited a month to actually test the powder and it took another month for the results to be returned.

Burrell’s trial for two felony counts of drug possession was scheduled for Feb. 5, 2015; his charges were dropped and he was released Feb. 4.
