A lawmaker in Michigan is proposing a bill that would ban the practice of a law from all foreign countries reports Michigan Live.
The bill is being sponsored by Rep. Michele Hoitenga and doesn’t specifically mention Sharia Law but wrote that it would include the religious law association with Islam.
In a letter seeking co-sponsors, Hoitengen mentioned a recent incident in which a Muslim doctor was found illegally operating genital mutilations on young girls. She said, “If you have not heard by now, a doctor in Detroit is being charged with operating an underground clinic that actively engaged in genital mutilation on young girls, essentially practicing a fundamentalist version of Sharia Law.”
The proposal has received criticism from Democrats including Rep. Abdullah Hammoud who asserted that Sharia is in no way associated with genital mutilation.
In response Hoitenga told Mlive, “This legislation does not target any specific group or religion, it simply clarifies that foreign laws that are inconsistent with American laws will not be recognized in our courts.”

Anywhere in which there is a decent sized Muslim population there will be the practice of sharia. That is inescapable. That’s their code of living. It’s happening in Thailand as well. The south has a Muslim population who all live by their sharia texts. Certain divorce lawyers in Thailand are having to deal with following the Thai divorce law in conjunction with sharia law which can be extremely difficult.
