A luxury resort in Phuket is under fire from the Department of Investigations for illegally building a villa, the Phuket Gazette reports.
The villa, which is built on a cliff, was found to be illegal by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in August because it violated the height limit of 6 meters. Since then, the DSI has been examining legal papers for the property, and has found further issues.
They found that the Sor Kor 1 document which was used to obtain the Thai title deed was issued for the land’s use for agriculture rather than for building a hotel.
It is possible that the process for issuing these land papers is illegal, which we will investigate further,” said Pol Lt Col Prawut.
The DSI has an interactive map to show where real estate development is prohibited.
