A Louisiana woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after shooting her pet llama Earl multiple times.
The woman says Earl attacked her while she was working in her pasture.
The woman told police that she hit Earl out of self-defense before escaping out of the pasture.
After her successful escape, she returned to the pasture and shot Earl the llama repeatedly.
Earl did not die, however, and was treated for a broken rib and multiple gunshot wounds.
According to Joe Leeds, an attorney familiar with pet and family law, the woman cannot claim self-defense as she was not in any danger after escaping the pasture, making the act retaliatory in nature.
