London Mayor Says U.S. Taxes ‘Outrageous’

by Admin on November 25, 2014

London Mayor Boris Johnson, a dual citizen of the United States and Britain, said he won’t pay taxes the IRS claims he owes, reports RT.

Johnson has been mayor of London since 2008, but was born in New York. According to RT, even though he threatened to renounce his citizenship in 2006, Johnson continues to carry a U.S. passport “it’s very difficult to give up.”

The US immigration attorneys in Thailand at Chaninat and Leeds are experts on US immigration laws and legal proceedings.

Johnson said in an NPR interview that the “US wants him to pay a capital gains tax owed by American citizens who earn income abroad,” as reported by RT.

Johnson said the demands under America’s “doctrine of global taxation” are “outrageous” and that he won’t pay the tax bill, according to RT.

“I pay the lion’s share of my tax, I pay my taxes to the full in the United Kingdom where I live and work,” Johnson said.

Robert W. Wood, an expert on taxes and litigation, wrote for Forbes, that even if Johnson were to renounce his U.S. citizenship, “when you exit you must certify five years of US tax compliance to the IRS,” so he would still owe the outstanding taxes

According to Wood, around 2,353 Americans are know to have renounced their citizenship in 2014 thus far.

I had no idea all of those things were ieculdnd in the income tax. I especially find it interesting that a single person, with a lower wage and no children, has to more than a person who makes a higher income. Granted the higher income option had children in the equation, but still. Crazy I would be spending more in taxes than a family. Interesting little evaluation tool.
