A federal judge has ruled that the Black Lives Matter movement cannot be sued, Western Journalism reports.
Judge Brian Jackson made the ruling in a case regarding a police officer who was injured in a Baton Rouge protest in July last year. The officer was struck in the face by a hard object and subsequently lost teeth. In response, he filed a lawsuit against the founder of the movement, DeRay McKesson, as well as Black Lives Matter and even the hashtag, #BlackLivesMatter.

The judge stated that “all claims against ‘Black Lives Matter’ must be dismissed because social movements lack the capacity to be sued” and that the officer’s “attempt to bring suit against a social movement and a hashtag evinces either a gross lack of understanding of the concept of capacity, or bad faith.”
