The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) is apparently responding positively to the proposed legalization of kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), which is currently on the narcotics list reports The Nation.

Although it is presently deemed to be a narcotic, the justice minister believes that should change, citing medicinal reasons. Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri has explained that he did not wish to he did not wish to promote the use of kratom, but believed it may distract individuals from using harmful drugs like methamphetamine or crystal-meth. He added that in his opinion caffeine was more addictive.
A study is presently being conducted into the pros and cons of kratom, before a final decision is made.
