Activist Post reports that the DEA has reversed its plan to ban kratom and has temporarily suspended moves to place it on the restricted drug list.
This comes after several activists and advocates staged an internet based protest against the move by pointing out that the plant has medicinal value.
DEA spokesperson Melvin Patterson said “I want the kratom community to know that the DEA does hear them. Our goal is to make sure this is available to all of them,” as quoted by activist post during the announcement.

The withdrawal is temporary and the comment period is open to the public until the 1st of December this year.
On August 31st, the DEA had announced that it will be placing kratom on the Schedule 1 list along with heroin and methamphetamine.
Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), a plant indegenious to Thailand is a psychoactive drug that has been used to treat opioid withdrawal.
