According to CJ Online, a Kansas couple is in dispute over division of military retirement benefits after divorce.
U.S Army Sgt. Maj. Alfonza Williams and Joann Williams divorced in 1994. A judge ruled that Joann Williams was entitled to 25% of the future military pension her ex-husband received.
In 2013, Mr. William’s lawyer said that the court lacked authority to allocate his retirement benefits, arguing that his client had never consented. The attorney representing his ex-wife, Jeffrey Leiker, argued that since Mr. William’s hadn’t raised the issue in the original divorce trial, he technically had given consent.
