Japanese travelers can rejoice as the Japanese passport has now taken the top spot for the most visa-free access around the world, according to the Henley Passport Index.

Japan received the boost after Myanmar’s government recently decided to allow Japanese passport holders to enter the country visa-free.

Germany, who held the number one spot since 2014, dropped two spots in a tie with South Korea and France, after falling behind both Japan and Singapore in the new rankings.

The US and UK, whose outbound visa activity has plateaued in recent years compared to East Asian countries, dropped one spot each to fifth with 186 destinations with visa-free travel.

Nevertheless, the US still ranks as one of the top ranking countries in regards to immigration. Immigration law in the US provides for family-based immigration as well as work-related visas and refugee visas.

Thailand currently sits at 68th, with visa-free access to 77 countries worldwide.
