Leading primatologist believes the gorilla shooting at Cincinnati Zoo may not have been justified.
Jane Goodall, a legendary primatologist who spent many years living with gorillas and documenting their behavior, wrote a letter to the director of Cincinnati Zoo stating her opinion that the gorilla appeared to be harmless to the child. The gorilla was shot dead by zoo officials, shortly after a 4 year old boy fell roughly 10ft into the moat where Harambe was kept and contact was made by the gorilla with the boy.

Goodall claimed that “it looked as though the gorilla was putting an arm round the child—like the female who rescued and returned the child from the Chicago exhibit”.
