The Jerusalem Post has said that as of Wednesday, divorced mothers are to equally share the financial load of child support payments with the fathers for children aged six to fifteen.
This ruling comes after an appeal by two divorced men who were paying their ex-wives child support even though their ex-wives earned a higher salary and their children were in joint custody.
The two fathers argued that the current law discriminates against men in not taking into account situations in which there is joint custody, to which the justices agreed.“From now on, the discrimination by which only fathers have to financially support their children will end,” said Amir Shai, the divorce attorney who represented one of the fathers.
