January might have more divorces than any other month. According to WCTV, there historically have been more divorce filings in January than any other month in the year.
It may be because the holidays are over and many want to start the New Year off on a different foot. Many attorneys take the last two weeks of the year off to prepare for the legal breakups that come in the New Year. If children are involved, many choose to wait so the holidays remain drama-free and happy.
In addition, many cases are filed in January because of New Year’s Resolutions. Couples who might have had a tumultuous year of marriage view the New Year as an opportunity to improve their lives, and oftentimes that means splitting.
Statistics aside, there is no “best time” to divorce. While January might have the year’s most divorce filings, going through the challenging transition is never easy. If children are involved, Thailand divorce lawyers Chaninat and Leeds suggest breaking the news gradually and maintaining an environment that is as normal as possible. Counseling for children and both parties involved is beneficial, especially if the breakup was turbulent. Staying optimistic, and remembering there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel, is vital.
In Thailand, however, Chaninat and Leeds attorneys say most divorces occur at a specific time in life, like retirement age, rather than a specific month. In addition, the change in culture and society in Thailand causes some couples who have moved here to divorce here.

In the UK, the media have invented “divorce day”, usually the 2nd working Monday in January. However although the first 3 months are the busiest time generally, August and September tend to cause more people to make enquiries after the long school holidays. With the UK becoming pretty much a secular society the divorce rate is dropping very quickly as less people are choosing to get married. The law may have to change to catch up.
