by Admin on October 9, 2013

The International Elephant March organized, by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, was held in Bangkok on 4 October 2013. The march was held to raise awareness of the ivory trade in Thailand.

Last year up to 36,000 elephants were killed for their ivory. 1 life is lost every 15 minutes. That’s a shocking statistic. At the current rate of poaching African Elephants could face extinction in the wild by 2025.

Launched in September 2012, the “iworry campaign” has attracted worldwide backing calling for a total ban on the illegal trade in ivory. The campaign is based on the premise that everyone has a stake in conserving elephants and informing people as to the continuation of the illegal ivory trade, the disturbing toll it is having on elephant populations and call on governments worldwide to be proactive.
