Shortly after announcing its plan to criminalize gay sex, Indonesia is now looking to criminalize any sexual activity outside the constitution of marriage according to a report by Washington Post.

The report says that anyone having sex outside of marriage can face up to 5 years imprisonment if the government acts on the petition requested by Islamic group Family Love Alliance.

Court decision is expected this December or early next year.

Naila Rizqi, head of legal affairs at the National Commission on Women was quoted by Washington Times as saying, the ban would “criminalize consensual sex outside of marriage.”

As the current law stands, only adultery is punishable by law holding a prison term of up to 9 months.

Several human rights organizations see the situation in Indonesia going from bad to worse.

There are English speaking Thai based immigrations lawyers in Thailand that are experts in handling U.S visa applications be they family visas or fiancée visas for Thais

“This [petition] consists of discrimination towards all Indonesians: women as well as men, and those of diverse sexual orientations,” said the director of advocacy at the Legal Aid Center to Washington Post.

Indonesia is the most Muslim populous country in the world and although their law is heavily based on the Dutch legal code, their courts are highly conservative and tend to align themselves with Islamic traditions.
