Indian Man Kidnapped By In-laws After Filing for Divorce

An Indian man has been attacked and abducted from his work place, by a group apparently led by his in-laws following an alleged marital discord.

Police officials say that the incident was prompted following a divorce petition filed by the man.

Tinu Vijayan of Punnapra of Kochi in south India was attacked by a group of around five men with on Saturday evening at the advertising work where he works. He was allegedly beaten with iron rods and beer bottles.

He was subsequently driven to his wife and was threatened that he must retract the divorce petition.

Witnesses to the attack took note of the assailant’s car registration and informed local police, who were able to rescue Tinu at about 11pm.

Tinu and his wife married last year. He filed for divorce after his wife allegedly showed suicidal tendencies.
