The State Bar of California has argued that Sergio Garcia, an illegal immigrant applying for a law license , should get it. According to MSNBC, Sergio has met the rules for admission, including passing the bar exam and moral character review.
According the bar, Sergio’s father is a naturalized citizen and the case is being weighed by the court because it is unprecedented in the state.
Sergio attended law school in California and told MSNBC that the US immigration system “is broken.” Some may find it ironic that someone is defying the law by being in the country illegally and then wants to practice American law.
Though Sergio applied for a green card, he still has not been granted one. But as US immigration lawyers in Thailand will point out, most professions will not bar immigrants with a PRA card from being accepted while the law profession normally requires citizenship.
