HRW Asks Thai Government Not to Deport Uighurs To China

Human Rights Watch   has asked the Thai government not to deport 112 recently detained ethnic Uighurs back to China.   Thai authorities detained the group near the Thai-Cambodia border. They are now being held in the central Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok.

Brad Adams, Asia director of Human Rights Watch has said. “Thailand needs to act quickly to ensure that these people are protected and not sent into harm’s way.”

Thailand, as a signatory to the International Convention Against Torture, has agreed persons in custody will not be compulsorily sent to a country where they would be at risk of being persecuted, tortured, or subject to other serious human rights violations.
