Hey PETA, What’s Your Purpose Again?

Over 90% of the cats and dogs housed in PETA’s Virginia animal shelter were euthanized in 2012, according to RT.

Yes, that’s the same People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that advocates against animal cruelty. Something seems amiss here.

The organization claimed that it had to kill the animals because they were “disease-ridden and unadoptable.” According to RT, the Virginia shelter’s kill rate is significantly higher than that of most other US kill shelters (on average, 39% said a PETA spokeswoman).

The Center for Consumer Freedom has criticized PETA for its hypocrisy.

“The animal rights group is talking out of both sides of its mouth – on one side preaching its animal liberation agenda, while on the other signing the death warrant of over 89 percent of pets in its care,” said CCF spokesperson Justin Wilson in a press release. “It’s beyond hypocritical.”

CCF claims the organization is more committed to publicity stunts using celebrities advocating for the rights of pigs and chickens, than everyday animals suffering abuse.
