Anyone deemed a threat to society will be monitored

The Local reports that the German government has approved the use of ankle bracelets to monitor movements of suspected terrorists.
The vote was cast on Wednesday by Cabinet members enabling the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) to force “Gefährders,” -those who are deemed a threat to society- to wear the bracelets without a prior conviction.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said to the Local, “Ankle bracelets are not a panacea but they are an important instrument to facilitate the surveillance of dangerous people.”

The decision comes after the December 19th attack which saw the death of 12 people after a Tunisian national Anis Amri ploughed his truck into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin. Isis later claimed that they were behind the attack.
Amri had already been under intelligence agencies’ radar for known links to Islamic groups and should have been deported months before the attack but Tunisia had been slow in sending necessary paperwork resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives.
