Technology has been deemed the “greatest mobility revolution since the invention of the car” by Germany’s transport minister
Germany’s upper house has approved a law to allow the automotive industry to develop and test self driving cars reports Reuters.
The bill sets certain terms and conditions the industry has to follow while developing the technology.
According to Reuters, “The new legislation allows them to road-test vehicles in which drivers will be allowed to take their hands off the wheel and their eyes off the road to browse the web or check e-mails while the vehicle handles steering or braking autonomously.”
The drivers will however, have to be behind the wheel at all times to take back control should a problem occur. The law also mandates the use of a black box to record the journey in the case of accidents.
If an accident occurs under an individual’s watch, the law will deem him/her responsible for the crash. However, if the accident occurs under the self-driving system, the system-failure will be to blame.
Several car companies including BMW and Volkswagen are working on self-driving cars but estimates indicate that such cars will not be available until 2020.

I wonder if this would be a good idea in Thailand seeing as to how many road accidents there are here. Maybe they should apply this to motorbikes as well. The machine will surely drive better than the motorists here
So if one gets into an accident in Thailand with a car or a motor taxi do you just go to the police or do you also need a personal injury lawyer in case of an emergency?
