Gay Marriage To Become Legal In England And Wales

by Admin on July 17, 2013

Another country has taken a further step further to equality in marriages.

It was announced yesterday that gay marriage is set to become legal in England and Wales after the lower house of the British parliament approved the remaining changes to a law that previously had Prime Minister David Cameron’s backing but had divided his Conservative party.

It now needs to be approved by Queen Elizabeth, but such approval is usually only a formality.

Gay couples may already obtain “civil partnerships”, conferring the same legal rights as marriage, but campaigners say the distinction in terminology gave the inference that society considers gay relationships inferior.

Both male and female same-sex sexual activity are legal in Thailand, but same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex couples under Thai marital law.
