Lawmakers in France have approved plans to ban pesticides that are thought to be harmful for bees.
In a win for environmental law, France has now gone above and beyond the EU restrictions, which two years ago limited the use of neonicotinoid chemicals (commonly known as neonics), which studies have shown threaten bees.
Bees play a vital role in pollinating crops. Without them, our worldwide food system will be in danger.

Agrotech companies Bayer CropScience and Syngenta who produce the pesticides argue that the research condemning the pesticides is not sufficient.
There is also upset within the farming community, who say there is no viable alternative to neonics, and a blanket ban will put France at a disadvantage over other EU crop producing nations.
