Jewish men in Marseille, France are being urged not to wear their traditional skullcaps, also known as kippot, following an anti-Semitic attack on a school teacher.
The warning comes from the head of the Marseille Israelite Consistory, Zvi Ammar, who says the measure is needed in order to protect Jewish lives.
He says:
“Life is more sacred than anything else. We are now forced to hide a little bit.”
He continued:
“But faced with an exceptional situation, we have to take exceptional measures. It causes me such pain to come to this conclusion but I do not want anyone to die in Marseille because they had a kippah on their head.”
Criminal defense lawyers in Thailand Chaninat and Leeds have been successfully handling criminal law cases in Thailand for decades.
The attack that prompted his warning was on a 35 year old Marseille teacher who was wearing a skullcap. A 15 year old Kurdish teen attacked him with a machete. He claimed to be acting on behalf of the Islamic State.
Luckily the teacher, Benjamin Amsellem only received an injured shoulder.
The suggestion has sparked fierce debate from the Jewish community and beyond.
French President François Hollande said it is “intolerable” for Jews to have to hide their Kippot.
