The Lawyers Council of Thailand is offering free legal advice to both Thais and foreigners at two Phuket police stations.

The program, ran by volunteer lawyers with English speaking capabilities, helps those with little knowledge of the law or financial means who get into legal trouble.

As of now, there are 32 lawyers who have volunteered and who will be on call for those who need assistance seven days a week from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

According to Thailand criminal defense attorneys, the program will save taxpayer money by reducing the number of cases that enter litigation as well as give much-needed legal aid to those who can’t afford it.

The Thai government recently gave the Lawyers Council of Thailand the green light to offer free legal services in 150 police stations across the Kingdom.

The program hopes to have 10,000 volunteer lawyers to join nationwide.
