A bill to ban use of foreign law passed the Mississippi Legislature 116-1 in early February, reports JURIST.
According to JURIST, House Bill 177 aims to protect constitutional rights including “due process, freedom of religion, speech, or press, and any right of privacy or marriage.”

Mississippi is not the first state to ban foreign law. Similar measures have been debated in North Carolina and in Oklahoma.
