New law grads in Singapore face weak market and strong competition.
Law firms in Singapore have reportedly begun reducing starting salaries since May last year.
Firms have had to give a higher amount of training opportunities to trainees, due to the vast majority of overseas graduates returning to Singapore to find work. This has rocketed from previous years but unfortunately the amount of trainees retained has also declined.
The latest Joint Graduate Employment Survey released in March states that individuals who have managed to secure jobs say salary conditions have decreased, following a ‘trend reported among their seniors who graduated in 2014’.
Thailand lawyers for International cases Chaninat and Leeds have decades of experience in Thai law.
As a result of the weak economy several large and mid sized firms have reportedly made reductions in starting salaries of around $500 since May last year.
“We were told on the first day that the retention rate would be poor,” said a legal trainee who only wanted to be known as Shelley and was unsuccessful in securing a job in the firm that he received training.
