A court in British Colombia has appointed an 11 year old child a legal guardian to protect her interests, as her estranged parents disagree over their daughters wish to be a boy.
The father wishes the girl to cease hormone treatment which will prevent her transition into female puberty. He also wants to prevent contact with transgender activists or transgender friendly therapists.
The court case was to establish whether such a young person can give informed consent for such serious medical treatment.
According to LifeSiteNews, the judge appears to have already adopted the child’s preferred male initials “J.K”, apparently accepting the child’s desired identification.
Child custody lawyers in Thailand Chaninat and Leeds specialize in Thai family law.
Justice Ronald Skolrood said: “This case is really about J.K. and his role in determining his own future. In my view, these issues cannot be properly considered without J.K.’s direct participation.”
Skolrood’s issue was whether to grant the daughter a legal guardian, as distinct from her lawyer. The lawyer would carry out the child’s wishes while the guardian would be in charge of her interests.
The child’s mother is to give the final say in who should fill the role of guardian.
