Residents of the Pom Mahakan community have been evicted after receiving orders from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration(BMA) to vacate the premises so it can turn the area into a public park.

Located in the Phra Athit District, the Mahakan fort was built in the 1700s and has been home to over 50 households for six generations.

According to Coconuts Bangkok , a plan to build a public park that would complement the fort was approved twenty years ago but has been continuously deferred by residents who refuse to leave their homes.

However, the BMA put an eviction notice on March 28 this year mandating all residents to leave by the end of April.
