Proposed Amendment to Illinois Divorce Law Could Affect Parenting Time

by Admin on April 11, 2018

State Representative, Shawn Ford has mentioned that several states in the US including Illinois are considering changing divorce laws from a “one parent guardianship” arrangement to co-parenting that would entail more flexibility.

Ford is currently sponsoring a bill that will allow for equal parenting time as he considers the current laws to support one parent more than the other. Advocates for the proposed amendment say that the new legislation will allow for both parents to be a part of their children’s lives.

Issues concerning Thailand family law should be directed to a professional law firm with expertise in family affairs.

The Illinois Coalition against Domestic Violence has urged for the opposition of the bill as it should be up to the parents or court to determine what is best for the child. They also mentioned that the current laws protect against abusive or controlling partners.
